Georgia is small, but its weather changes a lot from place to place. Tbilisi has hot summers and fairly dry winters, Batumi on the Black Sea is mild and very rainy, and Kazbegi in the mountains is cool in summer and snowy in winter. Here is what to expect in each month.
The short version
- Spring (April to May): green and fresh. Tbilisi reaches about 19 to 24°C in the day. May is one of the wetter months in Tbilisi and the mountains.
- Summer (June to August): hot in Tbilisi, around 29 to 32°C, but only about 18 to 20°C in Kazbegi. The best time for the mountains, Juta and Truso.
- Autumn (September to October): warm days and harvest season. Tbilisi is about 20 to 26°C. Batumi gets its heaviest rain from September to November.
- Winter (December to February): Tbilisi stays around 7 to 8°C in the day, with nights near 0°C. Kazbegi is below freezing and snowy, and the ski season in Gudauri usually runs from December to April.

What this means for your trip
- Escaping the heat: in July and August, Tbilisi can be around 32°C in the day while Kazbegi stays near 20°C. A day trip or a night in the mountains is the easiest way to cool down.
- Beach time in Batumi: June to August are the warmest months on the coast, and rain there picks up from late summer.
- Snow: the road over the Jvari Pass to Kazbegi sometimes closes after heavy snow. We watch the conditions daily and adjust your plan.
- Pack a warm layer: even in summer, Kazbegi can be about 10°C colder than Tbilisi.
